About the Chefs:
We feel the combination of the Days' excellent food, the Loves' delicious and unique wines, and the wonderful experience of dining inside this state of the art winery will be a memorable event. Both of the Days have extensive experience in the restaurant business. People in the Navasota area will remember Derek as the manager and chef at Martha's Bloomers.
J.C. was the executive chef there until recently. They combined casual elegance and fine dining, with a special emphasis on excellent food, beautiful presentation, and flawless service in a garden setting. J. C.'s father was a renowned chef at exclusive resorts in Texas and Arizona. She learned to cook at an early age, standing on a chair and helping her father, which resulted in a life-long love of growing, preparing, and even preserving foods of all kinds. A successful artist working in clay [both pottery and sculpture], J. C. brings artistry and beauty to foods also, using edible flowers, fresh herbs, and both common and unusual ingredients to create a unique dining experience. Her son, Derek, has many years experience managing restaurants and as a chef extraordinaire, bringing his own many talents to the table. Derek and J. C. owned a restaurant for three and one-half years serving, what they called "fine dining...sort of," a blend of home-style cooking and fine dining. Their current business in Navasota, called KoKo's Texas Kitchen, is a catering establishment and mini-bakery.
